Meet Catherine.
I didn’t set out to do this work.
It began because I couldn’t look away.
When I met a woman more than 30 years ago who suffered a terrible crime.
When Rosie Batty AO called on all of us to play our part.
When I saw abusive messages being sent through
e-payments in 2019.
I realised that harm isn’t only driven by behaviour. It is enabled by design. And what isn’t designed to protect will be exploited to harm.
The cost is paid in silence. In erased agency. In the inability to leave, rebuild or be believed.
Just as we design for privacy, accessibility and fraud prevention, we must design for misuse, coercion and control.
Because safety isn’t a policy.
It’s a design choice.
